Casing Pipes are threaded uPVC pipes that line a drilled borewell, holding the bore open, sealing out loose formation and keeping contaminated surface water from entering the aquifer. Manufactured to IS 12818 in three types — Shallow Well (CS) for depths up to about 80 metres, Medium Well (CM) for wells reaching around 250 metres, and Deep Well (CD) for wells to about 450 metres — they are supplied in 125 mm to 250 mm sizes in CS, 35 mm to 300 mm in CM and 100 mm to 300 mm in CD. Male and female threaded ends are integrally formed on the pipe, in V-type or trapezoidal profile, so a string assembles quickly without couplers, welding or site machining. The material will not corrode in acidic or saline groundwater, which is where steel casing eventually fails and contaminates the very water the well was drilled for. Ribbed and slotted sections are available for the screen length against the water-bearing strata. Threads are shipped with protective caps so they arrive undamaged and ready to run.
